Today i finally decided on one piece to do which is the song 'as if we never said goodbye' for the musical sunset boulevard. I think this would be good for me because its a character that i'm not used to so it will help me expand what i am used to normally. so i spent the whole lesson listening and trying to get a feel of the song

April 26th
today what i did was went through my song in class again and then watched different people sing the same song and i watched the different ways they acted. i then printed off the lyrics to look at and to help my learn my lines.
we then worked on Jordan's piece and he told us that we were doing little shop of horrors and we started on basic movement steps, the point of the piece is we are three muses and we are trying to warm Jordan's character that hes in danger but he cant see us and we get annoyed. he started by giving us basic movements for the first couple of seconds because we had not split up the words yet.
April 30th
we started with Nerissa's piece and she started by showing the girls some basic movements for the Sandra Dee song and then we went through the script just looking at what lines we have. I am playing a boy called roger who hangs around with the thunderbirds. There are two scene i am only in one and its sent in a cafeteria.
for Clair's piece really excited me because it's a dance piece from 'lion king' and i found it really cool that she wanted to have the whole class in it. first we watched the main dancers do the beginning and then she told the rest of us what we needed to do. i thought it was a good idea to use sticks for the beat because it adds a tribal African beat which goes with the theme of the musical.
i then spent the rest of the day going through my solo song listening to the music
1st May
in drama we went through Nerissa's scenes over and over for the whole lesson, we also tried it back to back running it. then for the next lesson i focused on my solo i really wanted to get into my character so i did some research on star who have gone insane or who had bad scandals.
- Mabel Normand
- Jean Harlow
- William Desmond Taylor
- Barbara La Marr
these are the different people i looked at who had been in scandals and i got inspiration from them to help with my character i also looked at different scenes from the film sunset boulevard. i then decided i wanted to do a monologue from the scene where she is about to be taken away by the police but se thinks shes in a film.
2nd May
i have now listened to the song repeat and have learned half of it. i am finding it hard trying to listen to the song and trying to add character to it. i was also having trouble with singing the song as i don't project enough and i am finding it hard to get a grasp on the song usually when i find a song i can instantly click with the song but with this i found it hard, i think its because its a song i have never heard and the person i am playing is a very complex character. i then looks at the plot of the movie
'An ageing silent film queen refuses to accept that her stardom has ended. She hires a young screenwriter to help set up her movie comeback. The screenwriter believes he can manipulate her, but he soon finds out he is wrong. The screenwriters ambivalence about their relationship and her unwillingness to let go leads to a situation of violence, madness, and death'
i used this to help develop my interpretation of the character. the fact that shes scared of ageing is sad as in the movie industry they want young pretty woman.
3rd may
we started with Clair's piece (lion king) and she added some new things and told us how to make improvements she told us that we should make every movement sharp and when we bang the sticks on the floor to make it forceful so it really makes a sound when it hits the floor.
i then spent the rest of the lesson doing my solo i studied her movements the way she moves in flowy but with random gitters and she sometimes moves with no direction like she doesn't know what shes doing she just moves for the sake of moving. I also started looking at different backing tracks and although i don't know most of the song i still wanted to have a backing track for when i'm ready.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_BmBQHrZMQ
8th of May
today we looked in costume department for anything that we needed for our pieces i couldn't find anything that would help me with mine but people in my class found different different outfits for their pieces. we then went back upstairs and did our own thing, since i was downstairs and couldn't find anything i decided to look for things online and see if i could different ideas from the different outfits she has worn. i wanted to get the same kind of feel of her costume but try and make it my own so i then started to sketch different ideas but i found it hard because i did not really have an idea of what people back then used to wear so i looked it up.
'The 1920s is the decade in which fashion entered the modern era. It was the decade in which women first abandoned the more restricting fashions of past years and began to wear more comfortable clothes (such as short skirts or trousers)'
this helped me think of the different styles i could use to make my outfit fit with the time..

then we went through Nerissa's Grease scenes and it was the first time we were all together so it made it easier as no one had to fill in for anyone and we were able to run it a couple of time which was good because we needed to practice.
9th May
we spent the first lesson going through different peoples pieces for the first part of the lesson i just at the side listening to my song on repeat, but then we went through Nerissa's not many people were in so i had to read in for some people but i think it was good that we just carried on doing what we were doing. I was also added to the sleepover scene as Jan i was told to talk to Savannah's character and laugh whenever Nerissa says something mean. I liked being added to this scene because it one gives me a chance to show the difference between Jan and Roger, i also like the fact that i am apart of the Sandra Dee song as its fun and girly.10th May
we went thought our solos in our additional vocal performance class today and we had to perform to one and other our different solos. After i had performed my solo i was told that i need to project more and work on my character, i had lyrics in my hand but my piers told me that i didn't need them as i know the lines i'm just losing confidence.
14th May
today our teacher spoke to me and asked me how i am coming along with my piece i told her that i think its going well but i find it hard to hit certain notes in the song and she told me it's because i am still trying to learn the song so it would be hard. I then worked On Nersissa's and we went through the songs and scenes and finally we added some choreography to little shop of horrors. we had to make sure we stayed close together as we are supposed to be like the supremes or a girl group that are close together. Jordan also taught us a bit of da-doo the other song he is doing.
15th May
today was our milestone assessment what we had to do is go through all of our pieces and asses each other on post-it notes. i think that all in all it looked very good we all have defiantly work hard and it shows. when i was performing my solo i was told that i need to work on projection acting a little bit more insane and my teacher thought it would be a good idea to add people into my piece as reporters.
16th May
i spoke to the whole class today and told them that i wanted them all to be in my piece as reporters and for two of them top be nurses taking me to an asylum i think people being in my piece will make it just that much stronger. having people in my piece gives it a sense of drama as the reporters are desperate to know how Norma has gone from star to crazy woman.
21st May
i asked the class to run through my piece with my a couple of times so that we know what we are doing how they walk on and off and how they act on stage. i am really happy that other people are on stage with my because it adds more to it and then when they walk of it shows how lonely Norma is something i couldn't convey if it was just me on stage.23rd May
today we went through Clair's and Jordan's pieces. in Clair's she showed me how the dance ended ans then we went through the song with out stopping and it looked really good i was really happy with how it turned out. With Jordan we went through the songs and the scenes all in the same tine which we haven't done before.

1st June
even though we don't usually have school on Fridays we had to come in so that we could have more time to practice. i spent it going through my solo song just singing it over and over as i had some problems with the lyrics.
4th & 5th June
for the past two days we have been doing technical runs and dress runs using the space has been really good as we are able to see how our pieces look using the big stage and we were able to go through it all in order so we know how it will feel when we come to do it for real.
6th June
we did our final run through today and i am feeling really excited about the shoe tomorrow and i feel like we are all tiered but ready to do an amazing show tomorrow
7th June
to day was our performance and i think it went very well we did two different shows one at 2 and one at 7 i think they both went as good. i am proud of my class and i think we all put in the hard work and that is why our show turned out as great as it did.
